Design Etsy thumbnails for the crop, not only the upload.
A technically large image can still fail when a product edge, label, or promotional text is trimmed.
Why the preview changes
The same source may appear in square, portrait, or landscape thumbnail areas. Keep the most important part near the center and leave generous surrounding space.
No single crop guarantees identical framing everywhere. Protect the center and treat outer edges as expendable.
A practical workflow
- Start with the highest-resolution original.
- Keep identifying details near the center.
- Move critical text and edges inside an inner margin.
- Preview 4:3, 1:1, and 5:4 frames.
- If important information is cut, adjust the source.
